Fel­ton man charged with Milling­ton ar­son

MILLING­TON — A joint in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­volv­ing the Of­fice of the State Fire Mar­shal, Mary­land Re­sources Po­lice, Mary­land State Po­lice and the Delaware State Po­lice has con­cluded with the ar­rest of Wil­liam J. Tim­mons of Fel­ton, Del. Tim­mons was charged with in­ten­tion­ally set­ting fire to his car, a 2005 Ford Five Hundred, on Feb. 27, 2016 in a for­est por­tion of the Milling­ton Wildlife Area.

The ve­hi­cle fire was ob­served by a passerby at 10:45 p.m., who no­ti­fied dis­patch­ers through the 911 sys­tem. The Of­fice of the State Fire Mar­shal re­ported five fire­fight­ers re­sponded from the Milling­ton Vol­un­teer Fire De­part­ment and ex­tin­guished the one alarm blaze within 10 min­utes af­ter ar­rival on the scene. The dam­age to the ve­hi­cle was es­ti­mated at $5,000.

The sub­se­quent in­ves­ti­ga­tion led in­ves­ti­ga­tors to the ve­hi­cle owner. An ar­rest war­rant was ob­tained and Tim­mons was ex­tra­dited to Mary­land and trans­ported tem­po­rar­ily to the Queen Anne’s County De­ten­tion Cen­ter, where he cur­rently re­mains on a $40,000 bond.

He has been charged with sec­ond­de­gree ar­son, false re­port of ve­hi­cle theft and ma­li­cious de­struc­tion of prop­erty over $1,000.
