Woman dies in head-on crash on state Route 18

CEN­TRE­VILLE — A Cen­tre­ville woman died Sun­day morn­ing, April 17, when the car she was driv­ing was struck head-on.

Ti­mothy Stan­gler, 23, of Cen­tre­ville was driv­ing a 2005 Ford F-150 on state Route 18 east of John Brown Road shortly be­fore 7 a.m. when, for un­known rea­sons, his ve­hi­cle crossed the dou­ble yel­low line and struck an on­com­ing 2006 Acura pas­sen­ger car driven by Ma Guadalupe Ramirez, 42, also of Cen­tre­ville, ac­cord­ing to Mary­land State Po­lice.

Ramirez’s car was pushed back into the woods; she was pro­nounced dead at the scene, po­lice said.

Stan­gler’s Ford flipped over on its top, po­lice said. He was flown by Mary­land State Po­lice he­li­copter to the Univer­sity of Mary­land Shock Trauma Cen­ter in Bal­ti­more. Po­lice said his in­juries ap­peared non-lifethreat­en­ing.

Queen­stown and Good­will vol­un­teer fire de­part­ments and county paramedics all re­sponded.

No drugs or al­co­hol were in­volved, but speed may have been a fac­tor in the crash, po­lice said. The in­ves­ti­ga­tion is con­tin­u­ing.
