Kent Island Day canceled

STEVENSVILLE — A forecast of rainy weather for Saturday, May 21, has led to the cancellation of the 2016 edition of Kent Island Day, according to the Kent Island Heritage Society.

There is no rain date, society President Jack Broderick said Wednesday, shortly after the decision was made.

“We’re looking forward to a bigger and better event next year,” he said, adding that the society decided to act preemptively, based on several forecasts, which are calling for rain chances of between 80 to 100 percent on Kent Island Saturday.

Kent Island Day had been scheduled to run in Historic Stevensville from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, but Broderick said the society felt it was better to make a cancellation call early so that the various participants could be notified.
