In­ter­act Club holds in­duc­tion for new mem­bers

CEN­TRE­VILLE — New mem­bers of the Queen Anne’s County High School In­ter­act Club were in­ducted May 11 at a cer­e­mony at Queen Anne’s County High School. The club is spon­sored by the Cen­tre­ville Ro­tary Club and shares the Ro­tary motto of “Ser­vice Above Self.” Fifty-three new mem­bers were in­ducted at the May 11 cer­e­mony, bring­ing to­tal club mem­ber­ship to 113. Of­fi­cers for the 2016-17 school year were also sworn in dur­ing the cer­e­mony.

The In­ter­act Club un­der the di­rec­tion and guid­ance of Robert Wil­lis, school coun­selor and fac­ulty spon­sor of the QACHS In­ter­act Club, con­ducted sev­eral ser vice ori­ented ac­tiv­i­ties dur­ing the 2015-16 school year.

”Stop Hunger Now” project: The club pack­aged 10,000 meals and raised over $2,000 to pay for the event. Pack­ets went to mis­sion schools in El Sal­vador and Nicaragua. These meals were part of the school lunch pro­grams in those coun­tries. School lunches, like these are of­ten the only meal some of those chil­dren would get each day.

Canned Food Drive at the KIHS and QACHS football game: In­ter­act col­lected non-per­ish­able food and do­na­tions that went to food banks within the Kent Is­land and Cen­tre­ville area.

Food/cloth­ing pantry started at QACHS: Stu­dents and their fam­i­lies can now give do­na­tions to the school that will be dis­trib­uted by the school to stu­dents with needs within the school com­mu­nity.

Mill­stream Park Clean Up: The In­ter­act Club par­tic­i­pated in a trash clean up at Mill­stream Park in Cen­tre­ville and the Easter Seals Camp Fair­lee near Chestertown.

Fund Rais­ing Ac­tiv­i­ties: In­ter­act Club fundrais­ing is done through do­na­tions and part­ner­ing with TriM, who runs Triathlons in our re­gion. Stu­dents vol­un­teer their time to help with the events. Por­tions of the pro­ceeds are re­turned to the club.

The In­ter­act Club rec­og­nized out­go­ing of­fi­cers and graduates for their ser­vice. Those of­fi­cers were: Pres­i­dent Ju­lia D’Am­bro­sio, se­nior; Vice Pres­i­dent Paige Todd, ju­nior; Sec­re­tary Charley Rek­stis, se­nior; Trea­surer Alexan­dria Wil­helm, se­nior; and com­mu­ni­ca­tions/His­to­rian Tay­lor Shep­pard, ju­nior.

The in­com­ing of­fi­cers for 2016-17 sworn in at the May 11, 2016 cer­e­mony were: Pres­i­dent Paige Todd, ris­ing se­nior, class of 2017; Vice Pres­i­dent Han­nah Adams, ris­ing ju­nior, class of 2018; Sec­re­tary Vic­to­ria Sei­del, ris­ing se­nior, class of 2017; Trea­surer Mal­lor y Plet­zer, ris­ing se­nior, class of 2017; and com­mu­ni­ca­tions/His­to­rian Tay­lor Shep­pard, ris­ing se­nior, class of 2017.

Of­fi­cers are voted in by the gen­eral club mem­ber­ship.

“These stu­dents have been in­volved in the club this year, but I hope that it is just a be­gin­ning and that they will con­tinue to sup­port the goals of In­ter­act and de­velop a sense of com­mu­nity in­volve­ment, lead­er­ship and ser­vice in their re­main­ing years of high school and be­yond,” said Wil­lis.
