Interact Club holds induction for new members
CENTREVILLE — New members of the Queen Anne’s County High School Interact Club were inducted May 11 at a ceremony at Queen Anne’s County High School. The club is sponsored by the Centreville Rotary Club and shares the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.” Fifty-three new members were inducted at the May 11 ceremony, bringing total club membership to 113. Officers for the 2016-17 school year were also sworn in during the ceremony.
The Interact Club under the direction and guidance of Robert Willis, school counselor and faculty sponsor of the QACHS Interact Club, conducted several ser vice oriented activities during the 2015-16 school year.
”Stop Hunger Now” project: The club packaged 10,000 meals and raised over $2,000 to pay for the event. Packets went to mission schools in El Salvador and Nicaragua. These meals were part of the school lunch programs in those countries. School lunches, like these are often the only meal some of those children would get each day.
Canned Food Drive at the KIHS and QACHS football game: Interact collected non-perishable food and donations that went to food banks within the Kent Island and Centreville area.
Food/clothing pantry started at QACHS: Students and their families can now give donations to the school that will be distributed by the school to students with needs within the school community.
Millstream Park Clean Up: The Interact Club participated in a trash clean up at Millstream Park in Centreville and the Easter Seals Camp Fairlee near Chestertown.
Fund Raising Activities: Interact Club fundraising is done through donations and partnering with TriM, who runs Triathlons in our region. Students volunteer their time to help with the events. Portions of the proceeds are returned to the club.
The Interact Club recognized outgoing officers and graduates for their service. Those officers were: President Julia D’Ambrosio, senior; Vice President Paige Todd, junior; Secretary Charley Rekstis, senior; Treasurer Alexandria Wilhelm, senior; and communications/Historian Taylor Sheppard, junior.
