SIL­VER SPRING — With great sad­ness, the family of Martha Eleanor Kay­hoe an­nounces her pass­ing on May 3, 2016. Daugh­ter of Fred­er­ick Gar­men Kay­hoe and Martha Eleanor Kay­hoe, she was a fourth gen­er­a­tion Wash­ing­to­nian. She is sur­vived by Valle H. Kay­hoe, Valle Michelle Kay­hoe-Haus­purg, Fred­er­ick G. Kay­hoe, Dou­glas Kay­hoe and Christo­pher Kay­hoe, many great nieces and neph­ews and her beloved golden re­triever, “Friend.” She was pre­ceded in death by broth­ers Dr. Don­ald E. Kay­hoe, Robert Kay­hoe, Fred­er­ick Kay­hoe and nephew Don­ald Kay­hoe.

Born Sept. 3, 1933, she lived in Chevy Chase, be­fore mov­ing to Sil­ver Spring, MD. She was grad­u­ate of BCC High School and the Univer­sity of Maryland where she re­ceived her grad­u­ate and un­der­grad­u­ate de­grees in early child­hood ed­u­ca­tion. An en­thu­si­as­tic kin­der­garten teacher at Pleas­ant View and Oak­land Ter­race el­e­men­tary schools, she re­tired from MCPS in 1986 af­ter 30 years of in­still­ing a love of learn­ing to many chil­dren. Upon re­tir­ing, she more ac­tively pur­sued her love of an­tiquing, travel, bird watch­ing and golf, and was a long- stand­ing mem­ber of Mont­gomery Vil­lage Woman’s Golf League. Known for her deep sense of pa­tri­o­tism, quick wit and dry sense of hu­mor, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Her family sin­cerely ap­pre­ci­ates the care and sup­port of her friends and physi­cians through­out her ill­ness, es­pe­cially her life­long friend Awilda, “Willi” Gard­ner and Dr. Penny Bisk, who was both her per­sonal physi­cian and friend.

In keep­ing with her wishes, family and friends are in­vited to a Cel­e­bra­tion of Her Life at Wood­end Na­ture Sanc­tu­ary, 8940 Jones Mill Road, Chevy Chase, MD 20815 on Sun­day, June 5th, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
