Martha “Marty” Kayhoe
SILVER SPRING — With great sadness, the family of Martha Eleanor Kayhoe announces her passing on May 3, 2016. Daughter of Frederick Garmen Kayhoe and Martha Eleanor Kayhoe, she was a fourth generation Washingtonian. She is survived by Valle H. Kayhoe, Valle Michelle Kayhoe-Hauspurg, Frederick G. Kayhoe, Douglas Kayhoe and Christopher Kayhoe, many great nieces and nephews and her beloved golden retriever, “Friend.” She was preceded in death by brothers Dr. Donald E. Kayhoe, Robert Kayhoe, Frederick Kayhoe and nephew Donald Kayhoe.
Born Sept. 3, 1933, she lived in Chevy Chase, before moving to Silver Spring, MD. She was graduate of BCC High School and the University of Maryland where she received her graduate and undergraduate degrees in early childhood education. An enthusiastic kindergarten teacher at Pleasant View and Oakland Terrace elementary schools, she retired from MCPS in 1986 after 30 years of instilling a love of learning to many children. Upon retiring, she more actively pursued her love of antiquing, travel, bird watching and golf, and was a long- standing member of Montgomery Village Woman’s Golf League. Known for her deep sense of patriotism, quick wit and dry sense of humor, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Her family sincerely appreciates the care and support of her friends and physicians throughout her illness, especially her lifelong friend Awilda, “Willi” Gardner and Dr. Penny Bisk, who was both her personal physician and friend.
In keeping with her wishes, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Her Life at Woodend Nature Sanctuary, 8940 Jones Mill Road, Chevy Chase, MD 20815 on Sunday, June 5th, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
