Soap Box Derby set for Saturday
FEDERALSBURG — Federalsburg will host the 15th annual Delmarva Soap Box Derby Saturday, June 4, with local youth racing for a chance to qualify for the World Soap Box Derby Championships.
The event begins at 9 a.m. with two classes competing on West Central Avenue.
The Stock class will have 7- to 13-year-old racers in 200-pound car and driver combinations. Race officials add weight to the cars so all car and driver combinations weigh 200 pounds.
The Super Stock class will have 10- to 17-yearold racers in 240-pound car and driver combinations.
The event is double elimination. Each driver will run down each lane of the course in each heat. Race officials will take the total time for both lanes down West Central Avenue and the fastest time wins the heat race.
The winner of each class will qualify for the World Soap Box Derby Championships in Akron, Ohio, in July. The winners also get prize money and a big trophy.
