Soap Box Derby set for Satur­day

FED­ER­ALS­BURG — Fed­er­als­burg will host the 15th an­nual Del­marva Soap Box Derby Satur­day, June 4, with lo­cal youth rac­ing for a chance to qual­ify for the World Soap Box Derby Cham­pi­onships.

The event be­gins at 9 a.m. with two classes com­pet­ing on West Cen­tral Av­enue.

The Stock class will have 7- to 13-year-old rac­ers in 200-pound car and driver com­bi­na­tions. Race of­fi­cials add weight to the cars so all car and driver com­bi­na­tions weigh 200 pounds.

The Su­per Stock class will have 10- to 17-yearold rac­ers in 240-pound car and driver com­bi­na­tions.

The event is dou­ble elim­i­na­tion. Each driver will run down each lane of the course in each heat. Race of­fi­cials will take the to­tal time for both lanes down West Cen­tral Av­enue and the fastest time wins the heat race.

The win­ner of each class will qual­ify for the World Soap Box Derby Cham­pi­onships in Akron, Ohio, in July. The win­ners also get prize money and a big tro­phy.
