Golf tournament raises $9,500 for United Way
GRASONVILLE — The United Way of Queen Anne’s County raised almost $9,500 to benfit local nonprofit agencies at this year’s golf tournament at the Prospect Bay Country Club on April 25. The annual tournament is the organization’s largest fundraiser. This marked its 23rd year.
“We had terrific sponsors,” said Executive Director Sandra Early. Federal Resources was the title sponsor. Other sponsors included: Deloitte, PNC Bank, Queenstown Bank, CNB, Ameriprise Financial, SCD Information Technology and Kelly Distributors.
Then there were numerous hole sponsors and businesses that donated prizes, she added.
Snack stations on the course were something new this year, and everyone seemed to like them, Early said. Board members made sure cold drinks were replenished throughout the day.
Sixteen teams competed in a four-player scramble. Taking first place was a team from Deliotte with a score of 58. Team members included Craig Wichter, Steve Kaufman, Patrick Schoenwetter and Vince Salamone.
The next two teams scored 61 each and placement was decided by tiebreaker. The Queenstown Bank team of Doug Pierson, Gary Blann, Kevin Wright and Jim Shaw took second and the Clark team of Jim Clark, Chad Willard, Steve Whitmyer and Mike Mann took third.
Vicki Paulas, from the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center team, won longest drive for the women. Harry Early III, from the Fisherman’s Inn team, won longest drive for the men.
The United Way of Queen Anne’s County has raised and distributed more than $600,000 since the chapter was established in 1990. Volunteers and donations are always welcome. For more information, call 410-6436288.
