Calico Fields hosts ‘Lavender Weekend’
MILLINGTON — Calico Fields Lavender farm in northern Queen Anne’s County will host its annual “Lavender Weekend” on Saturday, June 18, and Sunday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Calico Fields welcomes guests to view the lavender fields in full bloom. Cut your own lavender, try a lavender tea and lemonade, and sample some of the products made exclusively by Calico Fields at its lavender store.
Located at 108 Immanuel Lane, between Sudlersville and Millington on Maryland Rt. 313, Calico Fields grows lavender and aronia berry. Celebrating its 10th year, Calico Fields grows 12 different varieties of lavender, which are integrated into its extensive product line.
At Calico Fields you will find the lavender shop, a variety of flower and vegetable gardens, and a woodland trail to Unicorn Lake. With a commitment to environmental protection, the farm is chemical and pesticide free, powered by solar power and emphasizes sustainable agriculture and habitat protection.
This year, Calico Fields will have two local vendors as part of Lavender Weekend. Tilmon’s Island Winery will feature wine made from Calico Fields aronia berries. Additionally, Jaqueline Lockwood, owner of Lockbriar Farms Ice Cream Company, will offer two different flavors of lavender ice cream also made with lavender from the farm.
“We’re really looking forward to Lavender Weekend,” said a statement from Calico Fields owners Jay and Christa Falstad. “We’re excited to have Tilmon Island Winery and Lockbriar Farms Ice Cream Company sharing their exclusive lavender and aronia creations as part of our annual event.”
In addition to lavender, Calico Fields grows milkweed specifically for monarch butterflies and has different habitats aimed at supporting pollinating species throughout the farm. The woodland part of the property is preserved for wildlife habitat and is protected under a Maryland Forest Crop management program.
Calico Fields also recently received BayWise certification from the Queen Anne’s County Master Gardner program for its sustainable practices aimed at improving water quality and helping the environment.
