Town adopts day care or­di­nance

CHURCH HILL — An or­di­nance that changes the por­tion of the Church Hill town code per­tain­ing to home day care cen­ters was unan­i­mously ap­proved by the town com­mis­sion­ers at their meet­ing on Mon­day, June 20.

Or­di­nance 160/16 amends Chap­ter 75 of the code to in­crease the num­ber of per­sons al­lowed in li­censed home day care cen­ters in the town from four to eight. The com­mis­sion­ers acted on the rec­om­men­da­tion of the town plan­ning com­mis­sion, which made the rec­om­men­da­tion at the re­quest of a lo­cal day care provider.

The or­di­nance also re­quires that safe park­ing and load­ing and un­load­ing ar­eas be pro­vided at home day care cen­ters in the town as long as the flow of traf­fic on ad­ja­cent roads in not af­fected.

There was a very brief dis­cus­sion at a pub­lic hear­ing held dur­ing the meet­ing be­fore the vote was taken on the or­di­nance. Com­mis­sioner Char­lie Rhodes made the mo­tion to adopt Or­di­nance 160/16 and Com­mis­sioner Ed Raf­fetto sec­onded it.

Un­der law, it will take ef­fect 20 days from its pas­sage, said Town Ad­min­is­tra­tor Nancy Lindy­berg.
