Town adopts day care ordinance
CHURCH HILL — An ordinance that changes the portion of the Church Hill town code pertaining to home day care centers was unanimously approved by the town commissioners at their meeting on Monday, June 20.
Ordinance 160/16 amends Chapter 75 of the code to increase the number of persons allowed in licensed home day care centers in the town from four to eight. The commissioners acted on the recommendation of the town planning commission, which made the recommendation at the request of a local day care provider.
The ordinance also requires that safe parking and loading and unloading areas be provided at home day care centers in the town as long as the flow of traffic on adjacent roads in not affected.
There was a very brief discussion at a public hearing held during the meeting before the vote was taken on the ordinance. Commissioner Charlie Rhodes made the motion to adopt Ordinance 160/16 and Commissioner Ed Raffetto seconded it.
Under law, it will take effect 20 days from its passage, said Town Administrator Nancy Lindyberg.
