QUEEN ANNE — It wouldn’t be summer vacation without that age-old question parents know so well – what do we do NOW? And it wouldn’t be summer vacation without the annual arrival of camp season – Adventure Day Camps season at Tuckahoe State Park.

Located along beautiful Tuckahoe Creek straddling both Queen Anne’s and Caroline counties, Tuckahoe State Park offers both parents and children an array of year-round recreational opportunities. The summer season is particularly special as it is the time when kids 8 to 14 years of age get to experience a multitude of exciting outdoor activities as part of the Adventure Day Camps program. Whatever your child’s outdoor interests may be, the staff of Tuckahoe has put together a series of day camps designed to teach them how to enjoy their experiences to the fullest.

For the 2016 season, Tuckahoe’s immensely popular Low & High Ropes camp will be offered in two sessions on the park’s Challenge Course. A fastpaced adventure, it teaches participants the basics of belaying, knot tying and rock climbing on the course’s 40-foot climbing wall. Participants will also have the opportunity to try the zip line, climbing wall and 25-foot pamper pole. Sessions run June 23 and 24 and July 7 and 8, 9 to 11:30 a.m. The Low & High Ropes camp usually fills to capacity so make arrangements now.

Perhaps the most popular activity at the park, the Paddling camp teaches participants everything they need to know to paddle canoes and kayaks safely while enjoying the scenery on Tuckahoe Lake and Tuckahoe Creek. Paddling camp will be held for campers on July 18 and 19, from 12:30 to 3 p.m.

Got a Robin Hood wannabe in the family? Sign them up for Tuckahoe’s Archery camp! In this great introduction to the sport of archery, participants learn safe bow and arrow handling techniques from certified safety instructors, and take part in target practice at the park’s archery range. The next session will be offered July 18 and 19, 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Each 2-day Adventure Day Camp costs $40, although families signing up for more than one camp will receive $5 off the registration for each additional camp. “Between Care” (11:30-12:30) is available for those attending two camps in one day. The cost is $5 per day and campers should bring a bag lunch.

In addition to the twoday camps, Tuckahoe State Park will now offer three sessions of four-day Adventure Day Camps for kids ages 8 to 14. These camps will include activities from all of the day camps plus much more. In addition to canoeing, fishing, high ropes and archery, campers will enjoy mountain biking, crafts and even a behind-thescenes look at the Scales & Tales aviary, where the park’s owls, hawks and reptiles are housed. Fourday Adventure Day Camp sessions cost $130 and are held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 27-30, July 11-14, and July 25-28.
