Sarah L. Smith
CHESTERTOWN — Sarah Lillian “nee Jamar” Smith, of Chestertown, died on June 14, 2016 at the University of Maryland Shore Nursing & Rehab Center, Chestertown. She was 96.
Born in Morgnec, near Chestertown, on Feb. 15, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Reuben Franklin Jamar and Janie Louise Usilton Jamar. She attended school in Morgnec, Kent County. She married Harry S. Whiteley in 1938, and resided in Betterton.
She worked for Glen L. Martin in Chestertown in the 1940s, Sweitser’s Hosiery Mill, Cannon Street, until the mid ‘50s and at Fishers Hosiery, on Flatland Road, Chestertown, until 1961.
She and her second husband, Robert Allen Smith, moved to Cali, Columbia and Amsterdam, Holland, returning to the U.S. in 1976 and made their home in Pennsville, N.J. They later returned to Kentmore Park, where they owned and operated the Kentmore Park Store. Her last residence was in Queen Anne’s County in the area of Crouse’s Mill, Queen Anne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Smith, in August 2006; brothers, Reuben F. Jr. and Robert D. Jamar, of Rock Hall; sisters M. Elizabeth Myers, of Betterton,
