Spots still open for summer camps at Garfield Center
CHESTERTOWN — The Garfield Center for the Arts, 210 High St., Chestertown, is hosting three children’s summer camps this year.
A week-long music theater camp, MUSICAMP, will return to the Garfield Center from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday Aug. 8, through Friday, Aug. 12. MUSICAMP is an introductory camp for ages 8 to 15, and during the week campers will participate in acting, singing, choreography and set design. The camp culminates with a performance at 7 p.m. Aug. 12.
This year’s production, “The Hundred Year Snooze” by Dave and Jean Perry, is a musical version of “Sleeping Beauty.” The show is directed by Julie Lawrence, and Rachel Craig and Charlice Culvert will assist. The cost of the week-long camp is $180 and scholarships are available.
A new three-day program, “Summer Music Experience,” will debut at the Garfield Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, through Thursday, Aug. 18. The camp is open to children ages 8 to 16, who want to learn more about music. The three-day course will focus on recognizing rhythms, listening and singing. The course also will include a drum circle and a guest lecturer. The cost of the three-day camp is $30.
A popular theater camp, “Playmakers,” is full, but children still are able to add their names to the waiting list.
