Leigh named CBEC volunteer coordinator
GRASONVILLE — Courtney Leigh, an outdoor educator and employee of Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center, has recently filled the post of volunteer coordinator. She has worked in the field of outdoor education for about 20 years, and prior to working at CBEC she taught at Gibson Island Country School in Pasadena as the Environmental Science Coordinator.
With 170 volunteers on the roll at CBEC it is a task in scheduling, reporting and recognizing the efforts of the volunteers. According to Courtney Leigh, one of her goals in working with the volunteers is “to engage people in serving the environment on behalf of CBEC.”
She also said she “looks forward to creating an atmosphere that’s enjoyable and serves as a vehicle for one’s stewardship values.”
Some of Leigh’s strengths as volunteer coordinator are to serve as a facilitator and bridge the gap in connecting the volunteer with the appropriate task. Her personal skills, knowledge of the environment and diverse resource base will work well in providing the CBEC volunteers with a worthwhile experience.
Leigh has a vested interest in this position because she is a long-time local residing in the Queenstown with her husband, Tom, and two daughters, Sadie and Teagan.
