CENTREVILLE — Joshua Free­man is a se­nior broad­cast jour­nal­ism stu­dent at Mor­gan State Univer­sity in Bal­ti­more. This sum­mer he is help­ing out at The Record Ob­server news­pa­per as a vol­un­teer com­mu­nity cor­re­spon­dent.

Af­ter grad­u­a­tion, he hopes to have a ca­reer in sports jour­nal­ism and also to ful­fill his dream of be­com­ing an NBA head coach.

Free­man cur­rently re­sides in his home­town of Sudlersville with his grand­mother, Mar­ian Kennedy.

He is a grad­u­ate of the 2013 class at Queen Anne’s County High School. While at Queen Anne’s, Free­man was a stand­out sprinter on the track and field team, earn­ing All Mid-Shore honors, na­tional elite sta­tus in the 55m, and win­ning the 2A state cham­pi­onship as a part of the 800m re­lay team in 2012.

Af­ter grad­u­at­ing from Queen Anne’s, he en­rolled at Mor­gan State to ma­jor in po­lit­i­cal sci­ence, but later switched to broad­cast jour­nal­ism be­cause of his in­ter­est in sports writ­ing. He im­me­di­ately be­came in­volved in school ac­tiv­i­ties his fresh­man year, serv­ing in Stu­dent Gov­ern­ment as fresh­man class trea­surer.

Free­man’s in­ter­ests in­clude bas­ket­ball, track and field, pol­i­tics, and play­ing video games. His fa­vorite sports teams are the Chicago Bulls and San Diego Charg­ers.

While in col­lege, he helps Queen Anne’s track and field team as a vol­un­teer coach and also coaches youth bas­ket­ball in the sum­mer­time in Dover, Del.
