Mary­land Grain Check­off ref­er­en­dum sched­uled

CENTREVILLE — The Mary­land Grain Check­off pro­gram was es­tab­lished un­der state law and must be ap­proved by ref­er­en­dum ev­ery five years to con­tinue. The next ref­er­en­dum is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 29 at county Ex­ten­sion Of­fices. To be el­i­gi­ble to vote, you must be fi­nan­cially en­gaged in the grow­ing of grain as a ten­ant, landowner or share­crop­per. Op­tions to vote in­clude: 1. At­tend­ing your county ex­ten­sion of­fice on July 29 be­tween 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

2. Pick­ing up a bal­lot from the ex­ten­sion of­fice prior to July 29. It must be re­turned to the Ex­ten­sion of­fice or mailed in the pre­paid en­ve­lope to the MGPA of­fice as an ab­sen­tee bal­lot. It must be re­ceived prior to 2 p.m. on July 29.

3. You may also write to the MGPA, 53 Slama Road, Edge­wa­ter, MD 21037, call 410-956-5771, fax 40-856-0161, or email info@mary­land­grain.com to re­quest an ab­sen­tee bal­lot. It must be re­turned to the Ex­ten­sion of­fice or mailed in the pre­paid en­ve­lope to the MGPA of­fice as an ab­sen­tee bal­lot. It must be re­ceived prior to 2 p.m. on July 29.
