POND­TOWN — Vi­vian Delores Garnett, of Pond­town, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at her home in Pond­town. She was 80.

Vi­vian D. Garnett was born Aug. 2, 1935 in Pond­town, the daugh­ter of the late John Ash­ley and Mae “Fletcher” Ash­ley. Mrs. Garnett was a 1953 grad­u­ate of Ken­nard High School. She con­tin­ued her ed­u­ca­tion and grad­u­ated from the Univer­sity of Mary­land East­ern Shore. Af­ter sev­eral years of sub­sti­tute teach­ing, Vi­vian re­ceived her teach­ing de­gree and went to work for the Queen Anne’s County School sys­tem, where she taught for 28 years. Mrs. Garnett was a very ac­tive mem­ber of Mt. Pleas­ant United Methodist Church in Pond­town, and the Martin Luther King Foun­da­tion. She en­joyed bowl­ing, play­ing softball and speak­ing for churches.

In ad­di­tion to her par­ents, she was pre­ceded in death by four broth­ers, Ken­nard Ash­ley, Melvin Ash­ley, Louis El­liott, Harold Ash­ley; and five sis­ters, Leona Hawkins, Mar­guerite Smith, He­len Jef­fers, Eve­lyn Dozier and Rose Jef­fers.

She is sur­vived by her hus­band, Nel­son Garnett of Pond­town; one daugh­ter, Terese Garnett of Ne­wark, Del.; two sons, Michael Garnett Sr. of Pond­town and Aaron Garnett of Pond­town; one sis­ter, Glo­ria Faye Kennedy of Pond­town; one brother, Henry “Sonny” Ash­ley (Dar­lene) of Bear, Del.; spe­cial niece Vir­ginia “Ginny” Roberts of Pond­town; adopted sis­ter; Char­lotte Potts of Quaker Neck; two stepchil­dren, Gar­cia Garnett (Ve­todis) of Bear and Brenda Briscoe of Ne­wark, Del.; sis­ter-in-law Anna Ash­ley of Pond­town; and a host of cousins, nieces and neph­ews.

A visi­ta­tion will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Fri­day, July 22, at Mt. Pleas­ant United Methodist Church in Pond­town. Ser­vices will be held at 11 a.m. Satur­day, July 23, also at the church.

In­ter­ment will be held in Mt. Pleas­ant Ceme­tery fol­low­ing the ser­vice.
