CHESTER — The United Way of Queen Anne’s County is having a ball and the public is invited. Not the kind of ball where you have to get dressed up — a Summer Beach Ball with plenty of family fun and local crabs!

On Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Kent Island Yacht Club there will be hot crabs and cold beverages from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets are $50 for adults and $15 for children ages 6 to 12.

“In the past, the United Way had put on a yearly banquet to celebrate the start of our yearly fundraising campaign. It was always a beautiful event supported by many local residents to raise funds for our agencies. Last year was the first year for our Summer Beach Ball, which was created to offer a more ‘family friendly’ fundraiser,” said Heather Bacher, United Way board member and Ball committee chairman. Bacher is with M&T Bank, which has been the title sponsor of this event for two years running.

According to United Way Executive Director Sandra Early, “We have three new agencies this year, so we need to raise more so we can allocate more. It’s really all about the nonprofits to which we allocate funds. We presently have 22 agencies that serve needs countywide; everything from shelter for battered women to transportation for the homeless, to summer programs for children.”

The Summer Beach Ball will feature a Kid Zone, sponsored by Shore United Bank, Eastern Shore Dental and Queenstown Bank. It will include a moon bounce, offer face painting and other activities for the children, all included in their entrance fee.

The fee also includes a crab feast, beer, burgers, hot dogs and salads.

While supporters are bidding on the silent auction, playing corn hole, Kam-Jam or ladder toss, they will be jamming to the sounds of DJ Tommy. There also will be a cash bar, and all attendees will receive a stadium cup sponsored by Kent Island Mechanical and Federal Resources to take home.

United Way Queen Anne’s County is all about neighbors helping neighbors. Visit www.unitedwayqac.org to sign up or contact Sandra Early at 410-739-4716.
