QACHS Alumni award scholarships, plan reunion
CENTREVILLE — Three deserving Queen Anne’s County High School students were each awarded $1,000 scholarships by the Queen Anne’s County High School Alumni Association.
The scholarship committee evaluated the submitted applications and the 2016 recipients included: Madison Bennett, daughter of Daria Krauser Bennett (Class of 1980); Marissa Morrissette, daughter of Jeremy Morrisette (Class of 1989) and Michele Beavers Morrisette (Class of 1991), and alumni association member Caroline Peterson, who graduated from QACHS in 2014. Applicants do not need to attend QACHS to qualify for the scholarships. The scholarships are open to alumni association members who currently attend college or want to go to college or to any high school seniors from any school who are direct descendants of QACHS Alumni Association members.
The applicant must be accepted into an accredited program or certificate program at a U.S. college or university, and carry a minimum of three credits per semester. The applicants are required to state clear career plans and submit a complete scholarship application package by the deadline date in April. Since the Association’s inception in 2008, more than $25,000 in scholarships have been awarded.
The primary purpose of the QACHS Alumni Association is to provide scholarships to deserving students, and to provide gifts and services to the school. The major fund raiser for this organization is the annual Multi-Class Reunion.
This year’s reunion will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13, at Red Eye’s Dock Bar beginning at 5 p.m. The cost to enter the event will be the yearly membership dues of $10 per individual alumnus or $15 for an alumni couple. Red Eye’s is offering drink and food specials for QACHS Alumni arriving before 8:30 p.m.
For more information, contact Daria Bennett at email@example.com or visit the Queen Anne’s County High School (QACHS) Alumni Facebook page. The band this year will be Cazhmiere. Membership dues must be paid by cash or check; no credits cards can be accepted. Join the QACHS Alumni for a fun, music-filled night on Aug. 13 at Kent Narrows.
The QACHS Alumni Association will have a booth again this year at the Queen Anne’s County Fair. Save time and avoid lines at Red Eye’s by signing up or renewing your 2017 membership at the 4-H Fair. Alumni Association membership fees fund scholarship awards and gifts for the betterment of QACHS.
