CONNOR’Smiles run proceeds help sponsor children at Camp New Dawn
CENTREVILLE — Compass Regional Hospice’s Camp New Dawn was chosen as a beneficiary for a portion of the proceeds of the annual CONNOR’Smiles run held at Camp Pecometh on May 7. Organizers of CONNOR’Smiles presented Compass Regional Hospice with a check for $1,800 to sponsor children to attend this year’s Camp New Dawn.
Camp New Dawn is a summer grief retreat for children, teens and families who are grieving after the death of a loved one. Campers learn healthy coping skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. This year’s Camp New Dawn will be held Saturday, August 13 to Monday, August 15, 2016.
“Our organization chose Camp New Dawn because we wanted to give back to a program that provides healing to the community,” said Robin Rice, an organizer of CONNORS’miles. “Witnessing the impact loss has on children affects all of us. To be able to bring these kids together under this common bond strengthens not only them, but the families and communities who have suffered that same loss.”
Kenda Leager, development officer, Compass Regional Hospice, said, “Compass Regional Hospice relies on community donations like the one raised by CONNOR’Smiles so that every child and family who will benefit from the experience can attend.”
