Free vein talk set at lo­cal se­nior cen­ters

CENTREVILLE — A pre­sen­ter from the Cen­ter for Vein Restora­tion will ed­u­cate at­ten­dees on ve­nous in­suf­fi­ciency and go over the signs, symp­toms, risk fac­tors and treat­ment op­tions of leg vein dis­ease at all three se­nior cen­ters on Aug. 3.

The pre­sen­ta­tion will be of­fered at 9 a.m. at Kent Is­land Se­nior Cen­ter, 10:30 a.m. at Gra­sonville Se­nior Cen­ter and 12:30 p.m. at Sudlersville Se­nior Cen­ter.

The pre­sen­ta­tion may also in­clude lower leg vein demon­stra­tion to dis­play proper blood flow us­ing a por­ta­ble ul­tra­sound ma­chine. Par­tic­i­pants may be­come aware of symp­toms they might not have known to be cor­re­lated to leg vein dis­ease.

For ex­am­ple, this con­di­tion can lead to tired, heavy, achy and pain­ful legs. Some with this prob­lem may have bulging leg veins, leg swelling by the end of the day and lower leg ul­cers. In­di­vid­u­als may fall into high risk cat­e­gories for ve­nous dis­ease due to fam­ily his­tor y, life­style choices and other fac­tors. The tem­per­a­ture at mid-day Mon­day on Kent Is­land was clos­ing in on triple dig­its. Heat in­dices were fore­cast to be around 105 de­grees, mak­ing for the hottest day of the year so far.
