Hospice clinical assistant receives caregiver award
CENTREVILLE — Tonya Wright, Compass Regional Hospice’s clinical assistant, is the most recent recipient of the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Hospice Caregivers Award.
Wright was nominated by a patient’s family member, who recognized her commitment to compassionate and personalized care.
“Tonya was a glowing light in a very dark time in our lives. Not only did Tonya give her patient thorough, professional care — she also cared for all of us. Her bright, encouraging attitude lifted our spirits,” the Hospice Caregivers Award nominator said. “Although we knew otherwise, Tonya gave us the impression that my husband was her only patient as she was caring for him.”
The mission of Compass Regional Hospice is to provide “care on your terms,” for patients diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. Each staff member is committed to learning what is important to each patient and helping them celebrate life with their family and friends.
“What an honor it is to be presented this award,” Wright said. “I am just filled with thankfulness and love for my patients, their families and my colleagues at Compass Regional Hospice.”
The Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Hospice Caregivers Award is open to physicians, nurses, social workers, hospice aides, chaplains, administrative staff and volunteers of Compass Regional Hospice, who care for patients in Caroline, Kent and Queen Anne’s counties.
