Chestertown man charged in signs theft
CHESTERTOWN — A Chestertown man was charged with theft under $100 on a criminal summons on July 14 after allegedly stealing political signs, according to the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim reported the theft on July 8 after political signs had been taken from his property multiple times, police said. The victim set up a surveillance camera on the property and recorded multiple people taking the signs. The photos of the culprits were posted on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page and callers identified one suspect.
Edward Newcomer, 63, admitted to taking the signs “as a joke” on June 30 from 301 Pond Lane and said he was willing to return them, police said.
