Hospice train­ing be­gins for Sept. 13

CEN­TRE­VILLE — Com­pass Re­gional Hospice will of­fer two train­ing ses­sions for those in­ter­ested in be­com­ing a vol­un­teer.

The first ses­sion will be held ev­ery Tues­day and Thurs­day, from 6 to 9 p.m. Tues­day, Sept. 13, through Thurs­day, Sept. 29, at the Hope and Heal­ing Cen­ter in Cen­tre­ville. The sec­ond ses­sion will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tues­day, Oct. 18; Wed­nes­day, Oct. 19; and Thurs­day, Oct. 20, at the Car­o­line Hospice Home in Den­ton.

Those in­ter­ested must at­tend each day of one of the ses­sions to be able to work di­rectly with hospice pa­tients and their fam­ily mem­bers in Car­o­line, Kent and Queen Anne’s coun­ties.

Train­ing top­ics in­clude an over­view of hospice, the process of dy­ing, spir­i­tual care and its place in hospice care, the stages of grief, com­mu­ni­ca­tion tech­niques, fam­ily dy­nam­ics, stress man­age­ment and self-care for care­givers.
