Harris offers academy applications
CHESTER — The office of Congressman Andy Harris, RMd.-1st, has announced that U.S. military service academy nomination applications are now available.
A news release states the nominations will be for those in the state’s 1st District interested in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Merchant Marine academies.
Though the Coast Guard Academy does not require a congressional nomination, Harris will recommend interested applicants on a case-by-case basis.
Admission will be based on SAT/ACT scores, class rank, physical aptitude scores, extracurricular activities, athletic abilities and medical examinations. Academies will begin to accept applications on a rolling basis in September.
Final acceptance also is contingent upon receiving a nomination from an authorized source, such as one’s congressman or senator.
The deadline to apply for a nomination from Harris is Nov. 1. Any resident of the 1st District between the age of 17 and 23 is encouraged to apply.
For a nomination application, call the Salisbury office at 443-944-8624 or visit www.harris.house.gov/servingyou/militar y-academy-nominations.
