Milling­ton teen dies af­ter be­ing struck by car on Route 301

CHURCH HILL — An 18-year-old from Milling­ton died af­ter be­ing struck by a car out­side Church Hill Satur­day night, Sept. 16, ac­cord­ing to Mary­land State Po­lice.

A 2012 Volk­swa­gen Jetta driven by Pa­trick Sch­leiger of Chapel Hill, N.C. was trav­el­ing north on Route 301 ap­proach­ing state Route 302 when his ve­hi­cle struck Eric Emory Jr. of Milling­ton, who was walk­ing in the road, ac­cord­ing to the re­port filed by Tfc. M. Ken­dall, the in­ves­ti­gat­ing of­fi­cer. The im­pact threw Emor y into the grass me­dian, po­lice said.

Emory was flown by MSP he­li­copter to the Univer­sity of Mary­land Shock Trauma Cen­ter in Bal­ti­more, where he suc­cumbed to his in­juries Satur­day, Sept. 17. No in­juries were re­ported to Sch­leiger. The State High­way Ad­min­stra­tion re­sponded and set up a de­tour around the ac­ci­dent scene while Route 301 was closed for ac­ci­dent re­con­struc­tion.

Ser­vices for Emory will be held at 2 p.m. Satur­day,

Sept. 24, at Cen­tre­ville United Methodist Church, where friends may visit one hour prior.

Tracey Pierce, iden­ti­fy­ing her­self as the old­est sis­ter of Emory, has started a Go­FundMe page to help pay for fu­neral costs. Search Homego­ing Ser­vice for Ej Emory. As of Wed­nes­day night, it had raised $4,500 of a $10,000 goal.

In lieu of flow­ers, the fam­ily re­quests do­na­tions to­ward fu­neral ex­penses be sent to 32960 Cy­press Road, Milling­ton, MD 21651.

Po­lice said the in­ves­ti­ga­tion is on­go­ing.
