Millington teen dies after being struck by car on Route 301
CHURCH HILL — An 18-year-old from Millington died after being struck by a car outside Church Hill Saturday night, Sept. 16, according to Maryland State Police.
A 2012 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Patrick Schleiger of Chapel Hill, N.C. was traveling north on Route 301 approaching state Route 302 when his vehicle struck Eric Emory Jr. of Millington, who was walking in the road, according to the report filed by Tfc. M. Kendall, the investigating officer. The impact threw Emor y into the grass median, police said.
Emory was flown by MSP helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he succumbed to his injuries Saturday, Sept. 17. No injuries were reported to Schleiger. The State Highway Adminstration responded and set up a detour around the accident scene while Route 301 was closed for accident reconstruction.
Services for Emory will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday,
Sept. 24, at Centreville United Methodist Church, where friends may visit one hour prior.
Tracey Pierce, identifying herself as the oldest sister of Emory, has started a GoFundMe page to help pay for funeral costs. Search Homegoing Service for Ej Emory. As of Wednesday night, it had raised $4,500 of a $10,000 goal.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations toward funeral expenses be sent to 32960 Cypress Road, Millington, MD 21651.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
