CEN­TRE­VILLE — Robert Wil­liam Rhodes of Cen­tre­ville died on Sept. 20, 2016, at Univer­sity of Mary­land Shore Nurs­ing and Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Cen­ter in Chestertown. He was 85.

He was born in Cen­tre­ville, on June 10, 1931, the son of the late Harry Bernard and He­len Ross Rhodes. He was a grad­u­ate of Cen­tre­ville High School and en­listed in the U.S. Army and served in Ger­many for two years. He was hon­or­ably dis­charged on Aug. 30, 1960. Mr. Rhodes was a mem­ber of the Frank M. Jar­man Amer­i­can Le­gion Post 36 in Chestertown.

Mr. Rhodes worked in the con­struc­tion industry and more specif­i­cally the build­ing industry in Delaware. He re­tired in 1970 but con­tin­ued to work on the fam­ily’s farm near Church Hill. Dur­ing this time, he also cared for his ail­ing mother un­til her death in 1995. Mr. Rhodes worked pe­ri­od­i­cally at the Route 213 Drive-in The­atre and helped his brother Ross Rhodes with his auc­tion­eer­ing busi­ness.

He en­joyed watch­ing wrestling and NASCAR, as well as gardening.

He is sur­vived by his broth­ers, John Rhodes of Lewes, Del., Harry Rhodes of Mooresville, N.C. and Joseph Rhodes of Linthicum; and a sis­ter, He­len Louise Mi­ley of Clay­mont, Del.; along with nu­mer­ous nieces and neph­ews.

Ser­vices will be held at 11 a.m. Fri­day, Sept. 23, at Fel­lows, Helfen­bein & New­nam Fu­neral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where rel­a­tives and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. (one hour prior). In­ter­ment will be in Church Hill Ceme­tery.
