GRASONVILLE — Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 7464, in Grasonville, sponsored a fishing trip for wounded veterans through Wounded Heroes Hunting Camp, a registered 501(c)3 organization that’s mission is to provide fishing and hunting excursions to veterans who are still recovering from injuries received while serving our nation. Those who attended this trip were Army veterans Mike Geib, of Carlisle, PA, and Shawn Cushing of Odenton; Navy veteran Art Harley of New Kensington, PA, USAF veteran Daniel Comrey, of Finksburg, and Marine veteran Tor Peery, of Ft. Belvoir.

Earlier this past summer, the VFW was present at another WHHC sponsored fishing trip and presented a check for $1,000 to help cover some of the costs of hosting that group. A dinner was provided at a local restaurant, hotel lodging, and arrangements scheduled for Captain Mike Sadler, of the Southern Belle charter boat fishing, located at Kentmorr Marina, to take that group out fishing for Rockfish. Upon return from the fishing trip, a member of Captain Mike’s crew quickly filleted the rockfish that were caught by the veterans to take home, as a service he always provides his fishing parties. Sadler hosts and takes out at least one veteran’s group each month free of charge through any official veterans organization, like WHHC. He did that again, Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Local VFW Post Commander Herb Jones welcomed the veterans Monday evening, Sept. 9, at the post with a steamed shrimp dinner with all the trimmings, thanking them for their service and sacrifice for the country. Following that, the veterans were provided lodging at a local hotel, and after the fishing trip Tuesday, a send off luncheon of a special spaghetti meal, again at the VFW.

WHHC Coordinator Chris Rupp, an Army veteran himself, said, “The hunting and fishing trips challenge them, empower them, and enable them to do things they love to do. All expenses paid, our group focuses on uniting fellow Wounded Heroes on our outdoor adventures.”
