Gun­ston Crew opens sea­son with two gold medals

CEN­TRE­VILLE — Gun­ston’s Row­ing Team trav­eled to Washington, DC to test their speed at the Head of the Ana­cos­tia Re­gatta. The Gun­ston’s Men’s Var­sity 8+ won gold as they pow­ered down the course and took the top spot ahead of ten other crews that in­cluded two en­tries from fel­low Mary­land school, Wal­ter John­son, and three crews from St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, N.J.

Gun­ston’s two Men Novice 4+ boats also also cap­tured gold and sil­ver in their race.

In the Men’s Ju­nior 4+ race Gun­ston “A” placed third out of nine crews with the “B” boat com­ing in ninth.

The Gun­ston’s Girls also had a strong show­ing at the re­gatta with their per­for­mance in the Women’s Ju­nior 4+ event. Gun­ston “A” and “B” placed sec­ond and third re­spec­tively out of five crews com­pet­ing. The re­main­der of the Novice Squad made their de­but in the Mixed Novice 8+ cat­e­gory and placed third be­hind D.C. Strokes and Cap­i­tal Row­ing Club.

“I’ve been very pleased with the train­ing the team has put in so far this sea­son and to­day was con­fir­ma­tion that we are on the right track,” said Head Coach Ni­cole Stimp­son. “We’ve got two weeks be­fore our next re­gatta which will give us some time to con­tinue to get faster.”
