After retirement from the Navy in 1964, he returned to the family home, Roecroft Hall, and worked in the Sudlersville Bank of Maryland for 25 years, retiring as its president in 1989.
Bill was a charter life member of American Legion Post 18, a member of the Queen Anne’s County Board of Education for 10 years, serving as president for two years, and also a member of the governing board of Chesapeake College. He also was a member of the Queen Anne’s County Historical Society, a vestryman, Sunday school superintendent and treasurer of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Sudlersville until 1985, when he joined the Anglican Church to remain with his traditional faith.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife of 71 years, Libby, in Sept. 2015; also a sister, Anna Elizabeth Roe; brothers, Dudley Roe Jr. and Brown M. Roe; and two nephews, Dudley G. Roe 3rd and Brown M. Roe Jr.
He is survived by his children, Jane Roe Fox Babcock (Stover), William M.D. “Bud” Roe Jr. (Myra) and Charles P. “Phil” Roe (Yvonne); six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held at Cokesbury Village at 2 p.m. Oct. 22. Burial will be at Sudlersville Cemetery at a later date.
