CH­ESTER — Ron­ald Ran­dolph (Randy) Fred­er­ick Sr., of Ch­ester, MD, died on Wed­nes­day, Oct. 5, 2016. He was 72.

Born Nov. 3, 1943, in Bal­ti­more, MD, he was the son of Betty Crocket Thomas and the late Henry F. Fred­er­ick.

Randy grew up on Kent Is­land where he at­tended Stevensville High School and grad­u­ated from Glen Burnie High School. He was drafted and served in Viet­nam from De­cem­ber 1966 to De­cem­ber 1967 with the 25th In­fantry Di­vi­sion and was later moved to the Trans­porta­tion Di­vi­sion. He was awarded the Gal­lantry Cross for dis­re­gard­ing dan­ger and vol­un­teer­ing to go into bat­tle bring­ing in nec­es­sary sup­plies. Af­ter be­ing hon­or­ably dis­charged in 1968, he started work­ing for the Mary­land State Depart­ment of As­sess­ment and Tax­a­tion. In 1970, he moved back to Kent Is­land and ob­tained his Mary­land State Home Im­prove­ment Li­cense form­ing R. Fred­er­ick & Son Con­trac­tors.

Randy loved the wa­ter, es­pe­cially re­pair­ing and work­ing on his boats, fish­ing, crab­bing, and Eastern Shore liv­ing. He was a mem­ber of the Amer­i­can Le­gion Post 278 and a former mem­ber of the Grasonville VFW.

In ad­di­tion to his mother, Betty Ann Crock­ett Thomas, Randy is sur­vived by his son, Ron­ald R. Fred­er­ick Jr. (Sandy); two grand­sons: Zachary A. Fred­er­ick and C. Alex Fred­er­ick of Stevensville; four sis­ters: Barbara Burr of Eas­ton, Reg­gie Wor­ley of Ashville, NC, Nancy Thomas of Eas­ton, and Re­becca St­inch­comb (James) of Stevensville.

In ad­di­tion to his fa­ther, he was pre­de­ceased by his brother, Steven B. Thomas, and step­fa­ther, Wil­liam G. Thomas.

Pri­vate ser­vices will be held at Mary­land Vet­er­ans Ceme­tery Eastern Shore in Hur­lock, MD.
