Ronald Randolph Frederick Sr.
CHESTER — Ronald Randolph (Randy) Frederick Sr., of Chester, MD, died on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016. He was 72.
Born Nov. 3, 1943, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of Betty Crocket Thomas and the late Henry F. Frederick.
Randy grew up on Kent Island where he attended Stevensville High School and graduated from Glen Burnie High School. He was drafted and served in Vietnam from December 1966 to December 1967 with the 25th Infantry Division and was later moved to the Transportation Division. He was awarded the Gallantry Cross for disregarding danger and volunteering to go into battle bringing in necessary supplies. After being honorably discharged in 1968, he started working for the Maryland State Department of Assessment and Taxation. In 1970, he moved back to Kent Island and obtained his Maryland State Home Improvement License forming R. Frederick & Son Contractors.
Randy loved the water, especially repairing and working on his boats, fishing, crabbing, and Eastern Shore living. He was a member of the American Legion Post 278 and a former member of the Grasonville VFW.
In addition to his mother, Betty Ann Crockett Thomas, Randy is survived by his son, Ronald R. Frederick Jr. (Sandy); two grandsons: Zachary A. Frederick and C. Alex Frederick of Stevensville; four sisters: Barbara Burr of Easton, Reggie Worley of Ashville, NC, Nancy Thomas of Easton, and Rebecca Stinchcomb (James) of Stevensville.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his brother, Steven B. Thomas, and stepfather, William G. Thomas.
Private services will be held at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Eastern Shore in Hurlock, MD.
