Four named to Al­co­hol, Drug Abuse Coun­cil

CEN­TRE­VILLE — The Queen Anne’s County Com­mis­sion­ers named four peo­ple to the Al­co­hol and Drug Abuse Coun­cil dur­ing its Tues­day, Oct. 11, meet­ing.

The com­mis­sion reap­pointed John Plaskon and ap­pointed Su­san Cop­page, Kara Kresge and Iris Carter each to four-year terms to be­gin Nov. 1 and to end June 30, 2020.

The Al­co­hol and Drug Abuse Coun­cil was cre­ated by Gov. Robert Ehrlich in 2004 re­quir­ing each county es­tab­lish and main­tain an ad­vi­sory coun­cil. The law was de­signed to im­prove links be­tween the crim­i­nal jus­tice sys­tem and sub­stance abuse treat­ment ser­vices, as well as in­crease di­ver­sion from pros­e­cu­tion and al­ter­na­tives to in­car­cer­a­tion for low level, non-vi­o­lent of­fend­ers.
