CHESTERTOWN — Marianna Teresa Sipala Quigley, of Chestertown, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at Golden Rule Assisted Living in Rock Hall. She was 81.
Born on Sept. 25, 1935, in Chestertown, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Edith Anderson Sipala. She graduated from Chestertown High School, Class of 1953. She was later educated at Washington College and MacQueen Gibbs Willis School of Nursing, earning a degree as a registered nurse. Mrs. Quigley worked at Kent & Queen Anne’s Hospital as an operating room nurse for 44 years. She thoroughly loved her job, and it showed in the care that she gave to her patients.
She was married 41 years to the late R. Willis “Will” Quigley, who predeceased her. Mrs. Quigley was a member of Sigma Beta Xi (a local sorority in town), Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She loved nursing, enjoyed knitting and crocheting, especially baby bonnets for ever y newborn at the hospital. She was also involved with a local stock club following retirement.
She is survived by a son, William Paul Quigley and wife Christy of Jefferson; a daughter, Debra Ann Quigley Burke of Chestertown; a brother, Mike Sipala of Rock Hall; and a sister, Paulina Wolfe, of Ocoee, Fla.; along with four grandchildren, Casey Burke, Chris Burke, Kaitlyn Quigley and Will Quigley.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. Following the service, entombment will be in Chester Cemetery in Chestertown.
