Two face charges af­ter drug ar­rest

GRASONVILLE — Two lo­cal men face drug traf­fick­ing charges af­ter a traf­fic stop in Grasonville Nov. 15.

Mem­bers of the Queen Anne’s County Drug Task Force ob­served Court­land Golds­boro, 28, of Flat Iron Square Road, Church Hill, and Ni­cholas Car­roll, 23, of Ta­ma­rack Road, Chestertown, trav­el­ing to­gether, and based on an in­ves­ti­ga­tion they be­lieved the men were trans­port­ing an amount of heroin in­tended for re­sale in in county, ac­cord­ing to the Queen Anne’s County Sher­iff’s Of­fice.

Around 8:15 p.m., in­ves­ti­ga­tors saw Car­roll’s 2003 Ford Fo­cus in the Stevensville area and alerted uni­formed of­fi­cers. Mary­land State Po­lice Tfc. Dustin Pope stopped the car at U.S. Route 50 at Nes­bitt Road. Dfc. Brad Martz and K-9 Spike of the sher­iff’s of­fice con­ducted a scan of the ve­hi­cle, and K-9 Spike alerted to the odor of a con­trolled danger­ous sub­stance, po­lice said.

A search found 56.2 grams of raw heroin hid­den in a fake ice tea can inside the Ford Fo­cus and $1,490 in cur­rency on Golds­boro, po­lice said. When Golds­boro and Car­roll were told they were un­der ar­rest, Golds­boro at­tempted to flee, po­lice said. Af­ter a short foot chase he was ap­pre­hended as he tried to run through a nearby swampy area.

The heroin re­cov­ered has a cur­rent street value of about $9,000. Based on the amount heroin re­cov­ered, Car­roll’s 2003 Fo­cus was seized, po­lice said.

Golds­boro, who has a prior history for drug vi­o­la­tions, has been charged with flee­ing and elud­ing, re­sist­ing ar­rest, fail­ing to obey a law­ful or­der, pos­ses­sion of heroin with the in­tent to dis­trib­ute, pos­ses­sion of heroin and pos­ses­sion of para­pher­na­lia.

Car­roll, who has no iden­ti­fi­able crim­i­nal history, has been charged with the pos­ses­sion of heroin with the in­tent to dis­trib­ute, pos­ses­sion of heroin and the pos­ses­sion of para­pher­na­lia.

Both men are be­ing held at the Queen Anne’s County De­ten­tion Cen­ter. Golds­boro was held with­out bond, and Car­roll was held on a $25,000 bond.

Po­lice ar­rested two men Tues­day, Nov. 15, and charged both with heroin re­lated crimes, po­lice said. A search found 56.2 grams of raw heroin in the sus­pect’s ve­hi­cle.
