Little things make all the difference
Imagine only having two pairs of pants and no way to wash them. Day in and day out wearing the same pants, the same dirt, the same stains, the same smells — that’s what it is like for Shauna.
Shauna wants to be accepted and liked just like everyone else, but kids at her middle school could care less to
care less to be friends with the “stinky girl.” That’s what they call her, down the halls, in the cafeteria, she can hear them whisper about her.
It breaks her heart to hear the things the other kids say about her. She wants desperately to be their friends and to just have the opportunity to explain to them why she is the “stinky girl.”
Shauna only owns two pairs of pants and her family doesn’t own a washer or dryer, so it’s hard for her to keep them clean. Her family cannot afford to regularly go to the laundromat.
Her mom was recently laid off from her job and is unable to find work, and her dad is a disabled veteran. The family is doing what they can to just get by. Shauna tries to wash her clothes by hand, but with the cold temperatures outside the clothes never dry in time and then they smell like mildew.
Shauna longs to be invited to sleepovers and birthday parties or to just to sit with someone in lunch room. She wants to know what it is like to have fun with girls her age, to just fit in.
Having clean clothes is something that is easy for people to take for granted, but for someone like Shauna it means everything. To her, being able to have clean clothes means having
friends and being accepted. And most importantly it no longer means being known as the “stinky girl” and simply being known as Shauna.
Please donate to help children like Shauna receive the adequate clothing they deser ve.
