MILLING­TON — Betty Fleet­wood Van Sant, 84, of Milling­ton, passed away on Wed­nes­day, Nov, 23, 2016, at Uni­ver­sity of Maryland Shore Med­i­cal Cen­ter at Chestertown, due to com­pli­ca­tions of pneu­mo­nia.

Betty was born in Philadel­phia, to James and Ma­bel Pear­son Fleet­wood. She mar­ried Ken Van Sant, son of Ed­ward and Pearl Everett Van Sant, in 1951.

Betty had at­tended school in Milling­ton and worked with Milling­ton Lum­ber in sales and of­fice ad­min­is­tra­tion. Later she was co-owner of K&B Builders with her hus­band, Ken. K&B Builders was lo­cated in Milling­ton, which served as their main hub. As their busi­ness grew, other of­fices were cre­ated in Gra­sonville and in Dover, Del. Most of the homes built can be found through­out Maryland and Delaware, with the ma­jor­ity here on the East­ern Shore (Kent and Queen Anne’s coun­ties).

Betty was also a suc­cess­ful real es­tate agent with White­ley-Cham­pion Real­tors of Chestertown for over 25 years, un­til her re­tire­ment in 2006. She was a mem­ber of the Chestertown Sev­enth-day Ad­ven­tist Church, where she also en­joyed vol­un­teer­ing at the churches’ food bank.

Betty was a de­voted wife, mother, grand­mother and great-grand­mother and a loyal friend. Her gift of hos­pi­tal­ity was shared with many in­di­vid­u­als, al­ways there to lend a help­ing hand when needed. She en­joyed many hob­bies which in­cluded, dec­o­rat­ing and in­te­rior de­sign, sewing, paint­ing, ce­ram­ics, flower gar­den­ing and held a pas­sion for bird­watch­ing. She al­ways loved danc­ing with Ken, and play­ing domi­noes and pinochle, with her fam­ily and friends. Her laugh­ter and joy­ful spirit will be missed!

Sur­viv­ing are a daugh­ter, Karen Sigler of Chestertown, and her hus­band, Gene; two sons, Michael Van Sant of Kennedyville and Kelly Van Sant of Centreville/Ger­man­town, and his wife, Laura; nine grand­chil­dren; nine great-grand­chil­dren; Virginia Fleet­wood (sis­ter-in-law) and Ray Van Sant (brother-in-law), and his wife Sarah, of Milling­ton.

Betty was pre­ceded in death by her par­ents, Jim and Ma­bel; her broth­ers, Os­car and Jim; her hus­band, Ken; and brother-in-law, Harry Van Sant.

A “Cel­e­bra­tion of her Life” will be held on Jan. 8, 2017, at the Chestertown Seven­th­day Ad­ven­tist Church at 11 a.m. The ad­dress is as fol­lows: 305 North Kent St., Chestertown, MD 21620.

In lieu of flow­ers, the fam­ily sug­gests con­tri­bu­tions be made in her name to the Me­mo­rial Fund at Ch­ester River Ad­ven­tist School (ad­dress listed above).
