Family needs break to be together

Record Observer - - Front Page -

When Peter was born, he was a miracle and a blessing for Courtney, like all her children. But Peter has multiple physical disabilities which require hands-on care 24 hours a day. Courtney is a single mother with three children — Michael, 10, Peter, 6, and Angela, 2.

During the weekdays when she works, Courtney has a sitter to take care of Peter, but every evening

and weekend, she is on her own with his care, along with her two other children.

Her family lives several states away and she rarely sees them. They are not close enough to help.

Courtney says that she has to spend so much time taking care of Peter that her daughter Angela and son Michael have suffered.

Michael has had some problems at school and little Angela sometimes cries for no reason at all.

With the holidays coming on, Courtney is finding that she is reaching the breaking point with exhaustion.

She feels that if she could only hire someone to take care of Peter for one night, she and her other children could take a break, go out and enjoy each other’s company as a family.
