Demo­crat com­mit­tee seeks ap­pli­ca­tions to fill va­cancy

STEVENSVILLE — The Queen Anne’s County Demo­crat Cen­tral Com­mit­tee is ac­cept­ing ap­pli­ca­tions to fill the seat va­cated by Shar yn Har­low who was elected to the county’s Board of Ed­u­ca­tion.

“As we en­ter into the 2017-2018 gu­ber­na­to­rial cam­paign sea­son, we have much work to do and would like to fill Sharyn’s va­cant seat as soon as pos­si­ble,” said a news re­lease from the com­mit­tee.

The group’s by-laws state that the cen­tral com­mit­tee will be com­posed of four men and four women. In the event of a va­cancy, the com­mit­tee reaches out to in­ter­ested ap­pli­cants, in­ter­view them and se­lect a re­place­ment.

The com­mit­tee is ded­i­cated to sup­port­ing Demo­cratic causes, can­di­dates, and elected of­fi­cials and to in­creas­ing Demo­cratic voter reg­is­tra­tion and vis­i­bil­ity. Ac­tiv­i­ties range from re­cruit­ing can­di­dates at all lev­els and cam­paign­ing for them to rais­ing aware­ness of Demo­cratic Party prin­ci­ples and po­si­tions on is­sues af­fect­ing the com­mu­nity, state and na­tion. On a monthly ba­sis, the group holds open meet­ings.

If se­lected, the per­son must also be avail­able for the full state Cen­tral Com­mit­tee meet­ings held quar­terly.

Cur­rently, the com­mit­tee is ac­cept­ing ap­pli­ca­tions to fill Har­low’s seat. To qual­ify, you must be a fe­male res­i­dent of Queen Anne’s County and a reg­is­tered Demo­crat.

Ap­pli­cants must be avail­able for a brief in­ter­view on Jan. 18, 2017 some­time between 6 and 8 p.m. If you are in­ter­ested in be­com­ing a mem­ber of the Demo­cratic Cen­tral Com­mit­tee, sub­mit a let­ter of in­ter­est that in­cludes your name, ad­dress, email and phone num­ber, along with a brief re­sume.
