Single mom forced to sacrifice gifts
After Kathleen earned her bachelor’s degree, her priorities changed when she became pregnant with her daughter Willow. Life as a single mom, however, has been more challenging than Kathleen ever could have imagined.
Kathleen has learned some vital life lessons — independence, selflessness and patience — that have made her stronger. She has
the motivation and education for a professional career, but the expectations of potential employers don’t correspond to her daily realities.
Job interviews end in one disappointment after another because Kathleen can’t be on hand for a typical work day.
Willow’s pre-kindergarten is a half day, so Kathleen has to be home when Willow gets off the bus. This reality forces Kathleen to take minimum wage jobs that can accommodate her restricted schedule.
Although Kathleen works hard, her wages are not enough to support her and Willow. Without extra money, Kathleen can’t provide any Christmas gifts for her little girl.
