Hogan receives surprise from favorite football team
BALTIMORE — Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Hogan may not have gotten to come home Wednesday, Jan. 11, but he received a package that lifted his spirits while he waits to heal a little more.
On Wednesday afternoon Hogan posted a picture of himself from his hospital room at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center displaying a letter he received from Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys’ owner and general manager, and assorted team team paraphernalia, including a hat and shirt.
The letter from Jones read, “On behalf of all of us here at the Dallas Cowboys organization, we want you to know we are thinking of you, praying hard for you, and rooting for you. We were so sorry to learn of what you’re going through, but we hope you’ll take comfort in knowing you have friends here in Dallas who believe in you and who are cheering you on.
“We also want to say thank you for being such a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. Our entire team is grateful for your support, and everyone so admires the courage you’re showing now. Keep up the fight! We believe in you!”
Hogan is a loyal, longtime Dallas Cowboys fan.
Earlier Wednesday, when Hogan announced there had been a setback and he wouldn’t be released, he said, “... without trials there would be no triumphs. I am still improving and I am on pace to go home this week.”
He again expressed his appreciation for the community’s support.
Earlier this week, the sheriff’s office cautioned citizens to beware of unknown callers claiming to be collecting funds on Hogan’s behalf. An official GoFundMe page has been established and the local Fraternal Order of Police Lodge is accepting donations for the Hogan family, and those wishing to help should pursue those avenues, he said.
As of Wednesday, more than $40,000 of a $50,000 goal had been collected on GoFundMe.
Also, local businesses have been sponsoring fundraisers.
