DEN­TON — Shirley S. Covington of Den­ton, MD, died on Jan­uar y 14, 2017 at Caro­line Nurs­ing Home. She was 84.

Born on July 11, 1932 in Queen­stown, MD, she was the daugh­ter of the late Grayson Sparks and El­iz­a­beth Danze­glock Sparks.

She was born on a farm and grad­u­ated from Centreville High School. She ded­i­cated her time to the loves of her life, hus­band Joe and son Bruce. She loved her fam­ily and al­ways put them first. She was an adored grand­mother and friend. Her hob­bies in­cluded fam­ily trips, pets, and an­tiquing.

Shirley is sur­vived by three grand­daugh­ters: Heather Hem­me­ter of Church Hill, MD; Jacy Covington Earls (Jef­frey), of Den­ton, MD; Lind­sey Covington, of Ch­ester, MD; and five great-grand­chil­dren: Kayla Blann, Chloe and Ellie Cot­ton and Jolee and Jace Earls. In ad­di­tion to her par­ents; and sis­ter, Dorothy Noll; she is pre­de­ceased by her hus­band, Joseph Covington; and son, Bruce Covington.

A ser­vice will be held at Fellows, Helfen­bein & New­nam Fu­neral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD, at 1 p.m. on Satur­day, Jan. 21, with a vis­i­ta­tion start­ing at 11 a.m. Burial to fol­low at Wood­lawn Ceme­tery.
