with a pair of treys, one from the left baseline and another from the right side of the court, to put the Bulldogs up 40-39 at the half. They led the rest of the game.
“We played three decent quar ters,” Bulldogs head coach Steve Perry said. “We just didn’t hustle the first quarter. We let them score too many points.”
The Bulldogs opened the second half with an 8-1 run to go up 48-40. Bailey canned a baseline 3-pointer, Wayman scored from close range, Tynese Warner hit a layup off a feed from Adams, and Wayman hit a free throw for the eight points.
North Caroline led 58-47 at the end of the third quarter, but the Lions, led by Monroe’s ball-handling and hustle, kept fighting and closed within three points before Adams closed out the game at the line.
“I want him to have the ball in his hands because he’s our best free-throw shooter,” Perry said of Adams. “I’ve just got to make those guys understand, you’ve got to have more clock management. We had some turnovers there at crunch time that we should have never had and gave them a little bit of hope.”
