Crash kills Grasonville woman
Second serious crash reported near Church Hill
GRASONVILLE — The Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation of a crash that claimed the life of a Grasonville woman Tuesday evening, Jan. 24, on Perry’s Corner Road.
Preliminar y investigation indicates a northbound Chevrolet Blazer SUV crossed the centerline into the southbound lane as it rounded a curve near Talisman Farm and was struck head on by a Nissan box truck about 4:20 p.m., according to police. Both vehicles left the road and struck a tree.
The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene and her family notified later Tuesday evening. Due to her injuries, the medical examiner is requesting her identity be withheld until a positive identification is made, police said.
The driver of the Nissan truck, Carlos Alexander Sura Ruiz of Gaithersburg, and a passenger were not injured.
Perry’s Corner Road was closed in the area of the accident for several hours. The investigation and reconstruction is ongoing by the sheriff’s office assisted by the Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit.
Shortly after the fatal crash in Grasonville, deputies were called to another serious injury crash involving two cars at the Flat Iron Square Road and Granny Branch Road intersection near Church Hill.
Brian Patrick O’Neil, 28, of Chestertown was one of the drivers. O’Neil was flown from the scene by MSP Aviation to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore in critical condition, police said.
The driver of the other car, Drew Robert Downs, 19, of Centreville sustained minor injuries and released at the scene, police said.
Preliminary investigation indicates the collision occurred because one of the cars failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection, police said.
