Books Cafe re­turns to St. Luke’s Chapel for 8-day sale

QUEEN­STOWN — The 15th an­nual Books Café sale in Queen­stown will take place this year, Thurs­day through Sun­day, Feb. 23-26 and March 2–5. The sale will be held at St. Luke’s Chapel, Main and Dud­ley streets in Queen­stown. Sale hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Pro­ceeds will ben­e­fit the Wye Parish.

Over 20,000 care­fully sorted books will be of­fered at 90 per­cent or more off cover or mar­ket price. Be­cause the books have all been do­nated by book lovers from through­out the midAt­lantic re­gion, Books Café will be able to sell the books at th­ese un­matched low prices.

The home­made soups, chili, spe­cialty dishes — some new this year — and treats that put the café in Books Café will be avail­able as usual at bar­gain prices.

A main­stay of Books Café is its huge se­lec­tion of cur­rent and clas­sic fic­tion in hard­back and pa­per­back, all sorted al­pha­bet­i­cally by au­thor. Se­ri­ous read­ers of­ten make re­peat vis­its to ac­quire months of read­ing ma­te­rial — 20 to 30 books — for the cost of two or three books through con­ven­tional out­lets.

The ded­i­cated Chil­dren’s Room over­flows with every­thing from board books and pic­ture books to easy read­ers, New­berry win­ners, pop­u­lar se­ries, and young peo­ple’s clas­sics. The Nau­ti­cal Room will again of­fers a wide se­lec­tion of books on voy­ages of ad­ven­ture and ex­plo­ration, boat­ing ac­tiv­i­ties of all kinds, naval bat­tles, mar­itime his­tory, and more.

An­other strong cat­e­gory this year is Mil­i­tary His­tory, with an en­larged in­ven­tory ne­ces­si­tat­ing ex­tra dis­play space. Other ma­jor Books Café dis­plays in­clude: his­tory; lo­cal and re­gional in­ter­est; home and gar­den; crafts and hob­bies; “Old & Rare” (where col­lectible items can be found at 10 per­cent of what they are bring­ing on the in­ter­net); and much more.

To ac­com­mo­date Books Café, the St. Luke’s Shrove Tues­day, Feb. 28, Pan­cake Sup­per will move this year to the Old Wye Church Parish Hall in Wye Mills from 5:30 to 7 p.m. All are in­vited to par­take of de­li­cious blue­berry pan­cakes and fresh lo­cal sausage. Adult $8, chil­dren 6 to 10, $4, un­der 6 free.
