Books Cafe returns to St. Luke’s Chapel for 8-day sale
QUEENSTOWN — The 15th annual Books Café sale in Queenstown will take place this year, Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 23-26 and March 2–5. The sale will be held at St. Luke’s Chapel, Main and Dudley streets in Queenstown. Sale hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Proceeds will benefit the Wye Parish.
Over 20,000 carefully sorted books will be offered at 90 percent or more off cover or market price. Because the books have all been donated by book lovers from throughout the midAtlantic region, Books Café will be able to sell the books at these unmatched low prices.
The homemade soups, chili, specialty dishes — some new this year — and treats that put the café in Books Café will be available as usual at bargain prices.
A mainstay of Books Café is its huge selection of current and classic fiction in hardback and paperback, all sorted alphabetically by author. Serious readers often make repeat visits to acquire months of reading material — 20 to 30 books — for the cost of two or three books through conventional outlets.
The dedicated Children’s Room overflows with everything from board books and picture books to easy readers, Newberry winners, popular series, and young people’s classics. The Nautical Room will again offers a wide selection of books on voyages of adventure and exploration, boating activities of all kinds, naval battles, maritime history, and more.
Another strong category this year is Military History, with an enlarged inventory necessitating extra display space. Other major Books Café displays include: history; local and regional interest; home and garden; crafts and hobbies; “Old & Rare” (where collectible items can be found at 10 percent of what they are bringing on the internet); and much more.
To accommodate Books Café, the St. Luke’s Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 28, Pancake Supper will move this year to the Old Wye Church Parish Hall in Wye Mills from 5:30 to 7 p.m. All are invited to partake of delicious blueberry pancakes and fresh local sausage. Adult $8, children 6 to 10, $4, under 6 free.
