Susie Creighton Embert
CENTREVILLE — Susie Creighton Embert of Centreville, Md., passed away on Feb. 12, 2017 at Compass Regional Hospice. She was 85. Born on March 10, 1931 in Fishing Creek, Md., the daughter of the late Lehman P. and Rhida Parks Creighton, she grew up in the Centreville area where her father was the first Chief of Police. Susie graduated from Centreville High School, Class of 1947. At that time, she began working in the tax assessment office, located in the Queen Anne’s County courthouse, until retiring after 40 years of service. She married Harry Dodd Embert and together they raised two children in Centreville.
Susie was a member of Centreville United Methodist Church, the Centreville Alumni Association and past member of the Queen Anne’s County Historical Society. She enjoyed traveling all over North America and spending time with her family.
Susie is survived by her daughter, Susanne E. Mason and her husband Bill of Queen Anne; son, William Norris Embert and companion Cindy Q. Cronshaw; three grandchildren: Katherine M. Kraszewski and husband Stephen; Stacey E. Lowery and husband Troy; Kristen E. Donnelly and husband Kirk; four great grandchildren: Jaden M. Lowery; Tanner M. Lowery; William I. Kraszewski; Rosa E. Kraszewski; and sister, Ruth C. McLaren of Southport, NC. In addition to her parents, Susie was predeceased by two brothers, Preston C. Creighton and Lehman Leon Creighton.
A viewing was held at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Centreville, Thursday, Feb. 23, from 6 until 8 p.m. The funeral service took place at the Centreville United Methodist Church in Centreville, Md., on Friday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. Burial was in Chesterfield Cemeter y.
