sort of the whole complete game ... he was the difference in the game because we did not shoot well.”

Hynson, who had a strong game in the last head-tohead meeting with 19 points, scored only two this time through while going 0 of 21 from the floor. Hynson did grab 11 rebounds and added three steals, while D’Angelo snared 12 boards. Monroe chipped in four rebounds and three steals, and the Lions won the battle on the glass, 42-39, including 14 on the offensive end.

Hynson was hardly alone in his struggles, as Queen Anne’s finished 10 of 61 (16.3 percent) while scoring a season low in points. The Lions are heading to the playoffs on a three-game losing streak, having also fallen to Wicomico (82-54) and North Bayside champion Kent County (64-33).

“It was a confidence factor,” Becraft said. “We’ve got a couple of guys, who, if they see one or two shots fall, they go off. Otherwise, they get (the misses) stuck in their head.

“To be honest with you, we just wanted to focus on this one game,” Becraft added when asked about tuning up for the playoffs. “We wanted to play Kent Island as tough as we could and possibly walk away with a win.”

The Bucs shot 13 of 45 from the floor (29 percent) and 15 of 28 from the freethrow line. Miller (four rebounds, game-best four steals) chipped in 14 points while Van Wie corralled a game-high 13 rebounds, including five on the offensive end. Senior David Bowen played gritty defense throughout and finished with five rebounds and two assists.

“We were 3-for-23 from the three-point range,” Kratovil said. “Fortunately, they weren’t hitting from the beginning, but because of our defense, there were a lot of drives that were going to be layups that weren’t, and then it would have been a very different game.”

Kent Island has at least nine days off until its next game, which would be the semifinals of the 2A East Section II playoffs.

“This win was huge because it gives us more time to look at film, go into practice work harder knowing we have a first-round bye,” Johnson said.
