Elizabeth Colleen Thomas Adams
CENTREVILLE — Elizabeth “Bette” Colleen Thomas Adams died on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born on July 9, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Ruby and William Thomas of Grasonville, MD. Bette married John D. Adams on July 7, 1972 and moved to Centreville, where she helped her husband on the farm driving trucks or delivering parts, getting lunch, or whatever was needed. Bette also worked for the Chesapeake Bay Ferry and Pete and Helen Burgess Nationwide Insurance. She took care of her mother-in-law Lillian for several years until her passing. Bette drove a school bus for Queen Anne’s County from 1983 to 2012. She loved her bus kids and their families as much as they loved her.
She is survived by her husband, John D. Adams; a son, William “Keith” Hoxter (Kim); a daughter, Karen “Lynn” Reed (Dewey); daughter, Samantha “Sam” Grimes (Dale); grandson, Brandon Hoxter (Amanda); grandsons: Nathan and Nick Hoxter, Hunter Reed, Garrett, Ryan, Jake and Grant Grimes; brothers: John “Bluey” (Frieda) Thomas and Edward “Snapper” Thomas. She is predeceased by her twin sister, Mary; brothers, Bill and Sonny Thomas; son, Stewart Lee Hoxter, and her former husband, Stewart Hoxter. She loved her children and grandchildren with all of her heart — she will be missed by them all.
A visitation was held on Thursday March 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD, where services will be held on Friday, March 17, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in New Spring Hill Cemeter y.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Suzi Nowottnick from Kent Island, MD; father, Ronald V. Freeman Sr. of Bel Air, MD; also his daughters: Taylor Marie and Marley Ann from Melbourne, FL; sister, Tammy Kossler of Ravenna, OH; niece, Krystal Dinya of OH, Lawrence Freeman of TX; and David Freeman of Annapolis.
We will have a Celebration of Life on April 15 at the American Legion Post 278, Stevensville, MD, 1-5 p.m.
