El­iz­a­beth Colleen Thomas Adams

CENTREVILLE — El­iz­a­beth “Bette” Colleen Thomas Adams died on Sun­day, March 12, 2017 at Univer­sity of Mary­land Shore Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Easton after a coura­geous bat­tle with lung can­cer.

Born on July 9, 1936, she was the daugh­ter of the late Ruby and Wil­liam Thomas of Gra­sonville, MD. Bette mar­ried John D. Adams on July 7, 1972 and moved to Centreville, where she helped her hus­band on the farm driv­ing trucks or de­liv­er­ing parts, get­ting lunch, or what­ever was needed. Bette also worked for the Ch­e­sa­peake Bay Ferry and Pete and He­len Burgess Na­tion­wide In­sur­ance. She took care of her mother-in-law Lil­lian for sev­eral years un­til her pass­ing. Bette drove a school bus for Queen Anne’s County from 1983 to 2012. She loved her bus kids and their fam­i­lies as much as they loved her.

She is sur­vived by her hus­band, John D. Adams; a son, Wil­liam “Keith” Hox­ter (Kim); a daugh­ter, Karen “Lynn” Reed (Dewey); daugh­ter, Sa­man­tha “Sam” Grimes (Dale); grand­son, Bran­don Hox­ter (Amanda); grand­sons: Nathan and Nick Hox­ter, Hunter Reed, Gar­rett, Ryan, Jake and Grant Grimes; broth­ers: John “Bluey” (Frieda) Thomas and Ed­ward “Snap­per” Thomas. She is pre­de­ceased by her twin sis­ter, Mary; broth­ers, Bill and Sonny Thomas; son, Ste­wart Lee Hox­ter, and her for­mer hus­band, Ste­wart Hox­ter. She loved her chil­dren and grand­chil­dren with all of her heart — she will be missed by them all.

A vis­i­ta­tion was held on Thurs­day March 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fel­lows, Helfen­bein & New­nam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD, where ser­vices will be held on Fri­day, March 17, at 11 a.m. Burial will fol­low in New Spring Hill Ceme­ter y.

He is sur­vived by his mother, Mary Suzi Nowot­tnick from Kent Is­land, MD; fa­ther, Ron­ald V. Free­man Sr. of Bel Air, MD; also his daugh­ters: Tay­lor Marie and Mar­ley Ann from Mel­bourne, FL; sis­ter, Tammy Kossler of Ravenna, OH; niece, Krys­tal Dinya of OH, Lawrence Free­man of TX; and David Free­man of An­napo­lis.

We will have a Cel­e­bra­tion of Life on April 15 at the Amer­i­can Le­gion Post 278, Stevensville, MD, 1-5 p.m.
