COLUMBIA — Sophomore guard Janice Ladson has been talking about playing in this year’s NJCAA Division II national tournament since before Chesapeake College’s women’s basketball season started.

Now she can stop talking about it, and start packing for it.

Ladson scored 11 of her gamehigh 20 points in the fourth quarter, rallying her top-seeded Skipjacks to a 59-55 victory over second-seeded Garrett College (22-5) in Sunday’s Region XX title game at Howard Community College. “She just put the team on her back in the fourth quarter,” Chesapeake head coach Gwen Barnes said of Ladson, who was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player. “She’s been our leader the last two seasons.”

While no other Skipjacks reached double figures, Ladson still had plenty of help. Shahra Madison (game-high 11 rebounds) and Emily Truitt (seven rebounds) each scored nine points while Chantelle Gross (five rebounds, three steals) and Deondria Wimber added seven points each. Chandni Taylor contributed five points and Reeva Jackson (five
