Deadbeat dad sentenced to jail
CENTREVILLE — A Millersville man was sentenced to 18 months in jail for failure to pay child support for his minor child in Queen Anne’s County. James Clifton Hart Jr., 48, was found guilty of the child support non-payment following a jury trial in the Queen Anne’s County Circuit Court on June 1, 2016.
Hart had failed to pay his child support obligation since November 2014. Pursuant to a Court Order in a paternity case, Hart was obligated to pay $247 per month in child support.
Sentencing in the matter was deferred by the court until Nov. 10, 2016 in order for Hart to maintain employment and make payments toward his obligation. Hart reportedly made one payment in the amount of $70.19 on June 6, 2016, but failed to make any payments after that date. His current total arrearage is $18,480.17. In addition to the jail sentence, a judgment against Hart for the outstanding balance was also entered. The case was prosecuted by Queen Anne’s County Deputy State’s Attorney Christine Dulla Rickard.
