Ch­ester man found dead in Stevensville gas sta­tion

STEVENSVILLE — An in­ves­ti­ga­tion by the Queen Anne’s County Sher­iff’s Of­fice has de­ter­mined the death of an el­derly male at a Stevensville gas sta­tion was of nat­u­ral causes.

At 10:07 p.m. March 15, deputies were dis­patched to the Friendly Food and Gas Sta­tion at 1383 Main St. for an un­re­spon­sive male in the store’s bath­room.

As part of the in­ves­ti­ga­tion, deputies re­viewed the store’s cam­era footage and de­ter­mined Gary Xavier Paul, 74, of Ch­ester, died from nat­u­ral causes and an ex­ist­ing med­i­cal con­di­tion, the sher­iff’s of­fice said.

The gas sta­tion’s clerk no­ticed an in­di­vid­ual had been in the re­stroom for an ex­tended pe­riod of time, the re­port stated, and af­ter get­ting no re­sponse af­ter knock­ing on the door called 911. Paul had en­tered the re­stroom 10 hours ear­lier, po­lice said.

Deputies at­tempt­ing to con­tact Paul re­ceived no re­sponse and forced the door open to find Paul dead, po­lice said.

The body was re­moved and taken to a lo­cal fu­neral home, po­lice said.
