Upper Shore Regional Council selects leadership for 2017
CHESTERTOWN — The Upper Shore Regional Council, an economic planning and development agency for Cecil, Kent, and Queen Anne’s counties recently appointed its 2017 Executive Board. Robert C. Buckey, Queen Anne’s Commissioner, will be the chairman. Other officers are: Ron H. Fithian, Kent County Commissioner, as 1st vice chair; Joyce A. Bowlsbey, Cecil County Council President, as 2nd vice chair; Jack N. Wilson, Queen Anne’s County Commissioner as 3rd vice chair; William W. Pickrum, Kent County Commission President as treasurer; and Bob Meffley, Cecil County Councilman as secretary. Sen. Stephen S. Hershey represents the General Assembly on the Board of Directors.
“The Upper Shore Regional Council is looking forward to partnering with Queen Anne’s, Cecil and Kent counties to strengthen our regional economy in 2017,” said Upper Shore Regional Council Chairman Robert Buckey. “The Council was instrumental in bringing new state and federal resources to our region in 2016, and we hope to do more of that in 2017.”
During 2016, the Council leveraged USDA funding to release its new Eastern Shore Harvest Directory, a listing of over 400 agri-businesses across the Upper – and MidShore (Kent, Queen Anne’s, Cecil, Talbot, Caroline and Dorchester counties) with an Android and IOS App and website http://www.harvestdirectory.org.
The Directory is also in brochure format and shares demographic information on the region’s individual agri-businesses and links to their websites and social media.
The economic development mantra frequently used by the USRC’s Executive Director, Doris Sampson Mason, MSW is, “as we collaborate regionally, we are better equipped to compete globally.”
